Innkeepers Tasmania is investing in the Breathe Easy Program of Greening Australia. Greening Australia will be offsetting the carbon emissions associated with Innkeepers Tasmania's Free Fuel bonus. The biodiverse carbon offsets are part of Innkeeper's long term plan to reduce its impact on the environment and to encourage its consumers to fully offset the carbon emissions associated with their trip to Tasmania. Biodiverse carbon involves planting local native species to create carbon sequestration sinks that mature over multiple years to deliver large-scale benefits of combating climate change and reducing atmospheric dioxide. Biodiverse carbon plantings will be established in Tasmania in the Derwent Valley at Hamilton and can be seen adjacent to the Lyell Highway (A10). Innkeepers Tasmania's carbon offsets support Greening Australia's strategy to buffer and reconnect patches of bush on private land. In a changing climate this is critical to providing stepping stones for native plant and animal species to migrate across the landscape from the dry Tasmanian Midlands in the East to the high rainfall Central Highlands in the West. In 2010, Innkeepers Tasmania has offset 44.7 tonnes of carbon emissions and this significant investment will transform landscapes and nurture our precious native wildlife - the very thing our visitors come here to experience.
