Day 2…
Depart Hobart on Highway 1 North to Granton, then straight ahead West
on A10 through the historic village of New Norfolk. A stop at Hamilton,
famous for its craft centres is suggested.
Proceed on to Derwent Bridge and take C193 North (right) to Lake St Clair. We
recommend a visit to the Visitors Centre, enjoy their well-stocked café and take a stroll around the lake shores. Return South to A10 and continue West (right) into Queenstown. On the way, about 21kms East of Queenstown, stop for a short walk (20 minutes) on the Nelson Falls nature trail on the Northern (right) side of the highway - a very simple and level walk to experience the ferns and trees that are typical of the World Heritage Area. You will pass through Queenstown (famous for its copper mining and denuded "lunar" landscape, and home of the West Coast Wilderness Railway) where you could overnight (Innkeepers Hotels and Innkeepers Discovery Inns properties), or you may wish to continue 3km on A10 to B24 West (left) for 37km to Strahan for your overnight stay (Innkeepers Apartments and Innkeepers Intimate Retreats). Alternatively, you may wish to continue on to Tullah for overnight accommodation (Innkeepers Hotels and Innkeepers Discovery Inns property). From Queenstown, travel North on the A10 approximately 63kms through Rosebery to reach Tullah. As an alternative route, consider diverting off A10 on to B28 for a scenic drive via Lake Plimsoll.

Snow-capped peaks, Lake St Clair National Park
Day 3…
If you are staying at Queenstown, travel North on A10 for 3km to B24
West (left) for 37km to Strahan Wharf. If staying in Tullah, travel South on A10 through Rosebery and on through Zeehan,
proceeding via B27 for 46kms to the Strahan Wharf.
From the wharf at Strahan, take a trip down the Gordon River on either the Gordon River Cruises or World Heritage Cruises. These cruises leave early in the morning and take you to the heart of the World Heritage Area, giving you the opportunity to leave the boat for a short walk at Heritage Landing. Return to the wharf via Hell's Gates or Sarah Island.
On your return, collect your car and head North on B27 to C249 West to Zeehan - here, you may wish to visit the West Coast Pioneers' Memorial Museum. Then, return East on C249 joining B27 to A10. Take A10 North (left) through Renison and Rosebery, then continue on A10 North to B18 North through Hampshire. A few kilometres after Ridgley, watch for C112 on the East (right) side of road and take this to Highway 1 for an opportunity to visit the Lactos Cheese Factory prior to joining Highway 1. Overnight on the North Coast, where your accommodation options include Burnie (Innkeepers Hotels) and Ulverstone (Innkeepers Discovery Inns).
For Burnie - turn West (left) into Burnie.
For Ulverstone - turn East (right) and take the Ulverstone turn-off sign on the Northern (left) side of the road.

The harbour town of Strahan, Tasmania's West Coast
Day 4…
Return to Highway 1 and travel East towards Devonport - watch for B19
South on the right of the road to Forth. Then on the Southern edge of
town, take C132 South (right) through Lower Wilmot, Wilmot, and Moina.

East (right) to Moina on C132 to C136 East (right) to Sheffield (the town

Roland and the Great Western Tiers. Upon reaching B13, follow it South
(right) to Elizabeth Town on Highway 1 - then proceed East (right) on
Highway 1 to Launceston for your overnight stay.
Launceston has the following accommodation options:

Day 5…
Prior to your departure in the morning from Launceston, a trip to the
Cataract Gorge is suggested. The Gorge is close to the city and may be
crossed on a swinging bridge (the Alexandra Suspension Bridge), by chairlift,
or by foot across an old ford. There are plenty of trails and lookouts
- the Duck Reach Trail meanders through almost untouched landscape close
to the remains of the Duck River Power Station, Australia's first municipal
hydro-electric power station.
After exploring the Gorge (it would be now approximately lunchtime), head South on Highway 1 to Hobart. Approximately 7km past Perth on right hand side of road is C521 which will take you to "Woolmers Estate", spanning six generations of the one family and untouched since 1845. A restaurant is available for lunch and teas.
After visiting Woolmers, return to C521 East (left) to Highway 1 South (right) and call in to the unique working village of Ross where you can walk across the famous Ross Bridge (Circa 1836) and visit the Tasmanian Wool Centre. Then, by crossing the Ross Bridge, continue South (left) on Highway 1 to Oatlands, visiting the many craft centres and the Callington Mill, then on through Bridgewater to your last night's accommodation in Hobart.
